2001 - SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI GDB " BUG EYE "
In late 200 Subaru released its follow up to the hugely successful GC8 Impreza. The Stalwart WRX model was not only a feature of the line up but a prelude to the main event, the WRXSTI. As a follow up to the motorsport bred and iconic GC8 Impreza the revised GD series, affectionately known as the bug eye, had it all to do. Subaru Technica International (STI) applied its extensive world rally experience to transform the base model WRX into the hardcore STI. Whilst increasing weight over the previous GC8 series the improvements in structural rigidity transforms the GD platform, with the STI taking full advantage of this.
The chassis is further enhanced with specific body bracing and unique STI suspension. Paired with Brembo calipers up front making this an absolutely point and shoot proposition. The 2.0 liter turbocharged engine is a fully forged unit from the factory. Larger STI intercooler and free flowing exhaust liberates well beyond the claimed 206KW, itself a legacy of the long famed Japanese gentleman's agreement. Complimenting the improved torque and power delivery is perhaps and most significant weapon in the GD STI's arsenal, its 6 speed manual, curing the famed fragility of the GC8 STI 5 speed gearbox.
This car being late 2002model has the AVO and MRT enhancements. Think 0 to 100kph in 4 seconds and the quarter mile in 12 seconds' with its symmetrical all wheel drive system delivering performance in all conditions. On a twisty road most supercars wouldn't see which way this car went. Visually this car is immediately identifiable by its Pink STI badges and wide pumped out guards. The interior is quite rare and unique as its body hugging blue seats complete with the STI logo are optioned in leather and perfectly match the Momo steering wheel. As a follow up album the GD had a lot to live up to however it pedigree is clearly evident building the next chapter of the WRX STI. The STI was created in the rally world of David and Goliath but never fails to impress, Punching well above its weight.
This particular car is quite a rare example as it has genuine leather seats which are not seen in many models.
